Memphis Invisalign Dentists
Some patients desire straighter teeth, but also want a more transparent look than traditional braces offer. Invisalign, although not invisible as the name suggest, can provide this solution. Since Invisalign became popular just over a decade ago, Greg Boucek DDS and Jim Brawner DDS have offered to patients in Memphis who want straighter teeth.
What Is Invisalign?
There’s only one way to straighten your teeth, move them. The Invisalign process involves a series of aligners that apply pressure on the teeth to move them in the right direction. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is a removable option. Many patients prefer Invisalign because it provides a more aesthetically pleasing solution to straighter teeth. It is a clear aligner that goes over the teeth, so it is not easily noticeable like traditional braces.
How Long Will It Take?
Every patient case is different, so there’s no way to say for sure how many months away you are from straight teeth. Invisalign usually takes a little longer than traditional braces to straighten the teeth. It can take over two years in total for severe cases. However, some patients with mildly slanted teeth have a beautifully straight smile in only six months. During your first consultation Dr Boucek or Dr Brawner will provide an estimate of how long it might take for you.
A Solution For Straighter Teeth
Every case is unique, so we develop a custom plan for each patient. We will take an impression of your teeth during your first appointment. This gives us a replica of your teeth, helping us to accurately assess your case. We will then have you come in few weeks later where we will provide you with your first Invisalign aligners. You will take home multiple aligners and clear instructions on when to switch to the next set. Soreness can occur for several days when using a new set and we do offer pain medication if necessary. Depending on the case, we will have you come in every few months for a routine checkup and to provide you with your next set of Invisalign aligners.
After the desired straightness has been achieved, we’re not quite finished. Stopping here often means your teeth will start moving back to where they were. To avoid this, we will take a final impression, and create a custom retainer for you. You will have the option of a removable or fixed retainer. For removable retainers, we recommend you wear it during all hours of the day for the first few months. If we installed a fixed retainer, we will remove it after several months, and provide a removable retainer to wear while sleeping.
